Meet the Artist
Whaam! Bam! POW! These are just a few of the Pop
Artist Roy Lichtenstein's famous Comic Book styled
paintings. But he didn't just start making masterpieces by
night. No, Lichtenstein had a start like all famous
painters. Lichtenstein first picked up the paint brush as a
hobby. In his young years he would paint musicians
playing their instruments. He started to enjoy it and see
that he had talent. It was a disappointment to him that
his high school did not have an art class, so he enrolled in
summer Art classes at the Art Students League of New
York. Later he enrolled into college. He got his degree in
Fine Arts from Ohio State University, after he served
three years in World War ll. He then became an art
teacher and made sculptures from metal and plastic
when he wasn't painting his best works, his oil paintings.
In The painting below you will see Roy Lichtenstein's most Famous piece of art Whaam!, Displayed currently in the Tate Modern in Londen, England. This painting depicts a fighter aircraft shooting down an enemy plane.
