The Lichtenstein Way with Line
Line is one of the elements of art. All artists use lines to show movement in their paintings. Lines can do so much for a painting. Roy Lichtenstein’s famous painting Whaam! uses many lines of different sizes and colors. The painting shows a fighter aircraft firing a rocket at an enemy plane with a red and yellow explosion. He showed the explosion with lines by having them go all across the canvas. He made them bold, warm colored, and long to show that the explosion was big and fast. There are curvy red lines to show that there is a fire. Since they are curving it looks as if the fire is flaming wildly. If it wasn’t for lines this piece of art would have never been created. Neither would any painting for lines are in everything whether curvy, horizontal, vertical, diagonal, or straight!
