The Lichtenstein Way With Value

Value is the lightness or darkness of one color in a painting. The value shows shadowing, makes things appear 3-D, it shows where the light is coming from, and it creates shapes. In “Drowning Girl” it shows how he can also make beautiful with his use of value. He used all different shade of blues in this piece of art which was uncommon for this warm colored painter. He used light blue for her tears and parts of the water surrounding her. Then there is the dark blue. He used the darker blues for her hair and for the deeper parts of the water. The use of the different blues kept his style while also making it an intense scene with much shadowing and 3-D. A+ for Lichtenstein on value.
